Invoice Gates left the Microsoft board in 2020 because the board pursued an investigation into the billionaire’s romantic relationship with a feminine worker, the Wall Road Journal reported Sunday.
The founder and former head of the US know-how large stepped down as board chair in March 2020.
“Microsoft Corp. board members determined that Invoice Gates wanted to step down from its board in 2020 as they pursued an investigation into the billionaire’s prior romantic relationship with a feminine Microsoft worker that was deemed inappropriate,” the Journal reported, citing individuals near the matter.
This was “an affair virtually 20 years in the past which ended amicably,” a spokeswoman for Gates advised the Journal.
In keeping with the spokeswoman, Gates left Microsoft to focus extra on his philanthropic group, the Invoice and Melinda Gates Basis.
Gates and his spouse Melinda, who co-founded their charity 20 years in the past to battle world poverty and illness, introduced their divorce on Could 3 after 27 years of marriage.
A spokesperson for Microsoft advised AFP that the corporate was alerted within the second half of 2019 that “Invoice Gates sought to provoke an intimate relationship with an organization worker within the 12 months 2000. The worker, an engineer, claimed in a letter to have had a sexual relationship with Gates “over years,” the Journal reported.

Gates, who based Microsoft in 1975, stepped down as the corporate’s CEO in 2000, saying he wished to give attention to his basis.
He left his full-time position at Microsoft in 2008.
His seat as board director, which he left in March 2020, was the final place that formally linked him to the corporate.
