Daniels Igoni, Yenagoa
THE Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, has denied allegations that his workplace was withholding funds belonging to Native Authorities Councils.
Ewhrudjakpo mentioned this whereas presiding over an enlarged assembly with council chairmen and councillors on the Chief Dappa Biriye Convention Centre in Yenagoa, on Tuesday. He described the hypothesis as unfaithful.
This was contained in a press release, signed by his Senior Particular Assistant on Media, Mr. Doubara Atasi, on Wednesday.
The assertion recalled that chairmen and councillors who have been on the assembly unanimously agreed to avoid wasting 50 per cent of month-to-month allocations for recurrent expenditure to cater for his or her severance and different unexpected monetary obligations.
In addition they endorsed an earlier resolution between the deputy governor and principal officers of the councils that 60 per cent of native governments’ month-to-month allocation ought to be used for capital expenditure whereas 40 per cent ought to be used for recurrent.
In Bayelsa, the workplace of the deputy governor supervises the eight native authorities council areas of the state.
He mentioned he has his integrity to guard and wouldn’t interact in any unwholesome practices to tarnish his picture, warning these behind such smear campaigns to cease forthwith.
The deputy governor was quoted as saying, “Let me now deal with the hearsay and unfounded story concerning the Deputy Governor withholding council funds. As chairmen, you already know I’ve not collected and won’t accumulate something (gratification) from you.
“I need to state that a few of us have integrity and can do all we will to guard it. I don’t know the place the hearsay is coming from. I’m not within the authorities to destroy myself and my picture. So, I can’t permit anyone to make use of me to experience his or her political horse.
“The 60 per cent for capital and 40 per cent for recurrent expenditure selections and even the thought of saving was collectively agreed. So, why are a few of you going about telling your councillors and conventional rulers that it’s my workplace that’s withholding your funds?”
